Our Story
Ex Libris Farm was created out of a love for tradition that carries through in our approach to regenerative farming. Founded in 2021,we seek to inspire with exceptional quality and a sustainable ethos that honors our American heritage.
Ex Libris Farm is also the manifestation of our love for American agriculture and a desire to return to the land. My husband and I have always been fascinated by the beauty and simplicity of the farming lifestyle, and we wanted to be a part of it.
We began researching different ways to get into farming, and we quickly realized that there was a need for heritage breed animals in our area. These breeds, such as the Gloucestershire Old Spot pig and the Barred Plymouth Rock chicken, are at risk of extinction because they have been replaced by more commercially viable breeds.
We saw the opportunity to not only live the life we had always dreamed of, but to also make a positive impact on the agricultural community by preserving these important breeds. We knew that starting a farm would be a lot of hard work, but we were willing to put in the effort to make a difference.
Finally, we decided to take the leap and start Ex Libris Farm. It has been a challenging and rewarding experience, and we feel grateful every day to be able to wake up and work on the land we love. We are excited to see what the future holds for our farm and for American agriculture as a whole.
The phrase “Ex Libris” is taken from the Latin “out of the library” and is used as an inscription on a bookplate to indicate the owner. For us it indicates the richness of a literary tradition and demonstrates our love of books in a commitment to lifelong learning.

Our Inspiration and Philosophy
Our journey into farming began with the inspirational works of Joel Salatin, who showed us how rotational grazing could transform our land, enrich the soil, and fuel a positive shift in agriculture. This practice not only increases land fertility but also encourages a sustainable way of life that deeply respects nature. We believe that small-scale farming, especially when focused on regenerative agriculture, can be an impactful solution for the environment. Unlike conventional, extractive methods that drain soil nutrients and harm ecosystems, regenerative agriculture revitalizes soil health and supports balanced ecosystems.
